Questions That Keep Getting Asked

What are shared accommodations?
HI-Boston offers its guests shared accommodations which include dorm rooms with bunk beds. Guests are assigned their own bed and share rooms with other hostellers. Rooms are designated as male and female. Men and women traveling together may stay in a co-ed room. Each dorm bed is outfitted with a Custom Bed Oasis featuring a privacy barrier, personal locker, shelf, charging station and individual lamp. You may use your own lock or purchase one at the front desk.
How can I reserve a bed?
You can make a reservation up to 24 hours prior to your arrival under the Reservation section on this website or by calling HI-Boston. To secure your reservation you will need a valid credit card. Reservations are not required, however they are recommended. For more information, visit our reservation page.
Am I charged at the time of reservation?
No, a credit card is used to guarantee your reservation.
How many nights may I stay at the hostel?
There is maximum stay of 14 nights per guest per calendar year.
Do I need identification?
Yes, each guest must have a government issued photo ID such as a passport, U.S. driver’s license, state/provincial or national identity card, military service card, or alien registration card. Hostelling International membership card are required for member discounts. Unfortunately we cannot accept ISIC cards, college, school and university IDs as valid forms of identification.
Can I stay at HI-Boston if I’m not a member of Hostelling International?
Yes. If you are not a member of Hostelling International, you will be charged a daily membership fee of $3 per day. You can also purchase an annual membership at check-in or purchase one online.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is 4:00 p.m. and check out is at 11:00 a.m. HI-Boston is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Should you arrive prior to check-in and your room is not ready we are happy to store your luggage.
Can I store my luggage?
If you arrive prior to your room being ready we are happy to store your luggage. Guests with departures after the 11:00 a.m. check-out can use the coin operated lockers to store luggage only on your day of departure. There are no long term storage facilities at HI-Boston.

Dorm rooms have personal lockers and locks may be purchased at the front desk. Private rooms have in-room safes.

Does HI-Boston have age restrictions?
HI-Boston is open to guests of all ages. Guests under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Groups with guests under 18 years, booked through HI-Boston’s group sales department, must be accompanied by a chaperone.
Do I need a sleeping bag?
No. Sleeping bags are prohibited at HI-Boston due to Boston public health regulations. HI-Boston provides all guests with complimentary linen and towels during their stay.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations may be made at no charge up until 23:59 ET the night before you arrive. Reservations cancelled after 23:59 ET prior to the day of arrival will be charged for the first night’s stay. Please call 888-999-4678 (US or Canada) or 617-536-1027 to cancel.
Does HI-Boston serve breakfast?
Yes. HI-Boston serves a complimentary continental breakfast to all guests.
Can I receive phone calls?
Yes. Dorm rooms do not have phones however messages can be left at the front desk.
Do you have parking?
No. Please visit the directions page for a list of parking garages in the area.
Do you have laundry facilities?
Yes. HI-Boston has washing machines and dryers.
